NINE TIPS FOR GROWING SUCCULENTS (AND NOT KILLING THEM)

types of gasteria Is the Most Important Thing for Your Succulents
According to types of succulents, they need approximately six hours of sunlight per day. You may need to gradually expose succulents to full sunlight or shade them with a sheer curtain when new plants are planted because they can scorch in direct sunlight.

Rotate Succulents Frequently
When they sit in the same spot every day, succulents love direct sun. However, if only one side of the plant is getting enough, that means they’re getting inadequate light. Ray and Langton recommend rotating the plant often. Since succulents lean toward the sun, rotating them will help them stand up straight. They may also need to find a brighter spot if they are leaning so much.

Water According to the Season
Like us, succulents need more energy during growth periods. As the plants thrive during the spring and summer, they eat more water than when they rest in the fall and winter. Langton and Ray recommend testing the soil with your finger in the top 125 inches and watering it when it’s dry. Watering your succulent too much can kill it, so be sure to let the soil dry between waterings.

Water the Soil Directly
Soak the soil until the water runs out of the drainage holes when you are watering succulents. Water is less efficient in containers without drainage holes. Do not mist your succulents as this will cause broken roots and moldy leaves. Alternatively, you can put the pot in a pan of water and let it absorb water through the drainage hole. Remove from the pan once the soil has been moistened.

Keep Succulents Clean
Langton and Ray write that dust will eventually accumulate on the surface of indoor plants, which can inhibit their growth. You can use a soft paintbrush to reach the hard-to-reach sections. Gently wipe off the leaves and spines with a damp cloth.

Choose a Container with Drainage
Succubus do not like standing in waterlogged soil, so drainage is essential to prevent rot. A drain hole should be provided in your container so that excess water can escape. Pots made of Terra-cotta are ideal for beginners.

Soil is Important for Succulent Plants
Regular potting soil from your yard will not work for succulents because they need draining soil. Plant cactus soil or mix potting soil with sand, pumice, or perlite. When repotting a succulent, be gentle because the roots are fragile.

Get Rid of Bugs
Although insects don’t usually bother indoor succulents, you may need to deal with them occasionally. Succulents that are planted in too moist or poorly drained soil are the most popular for gnats. Spray the soil with 70 percent isopropyl alcohol to get rid of eggs and larvae. Succubus owners must also contend with mealybugs. Mealybugs generally develop because of overwatering and overfertilizing. Spray infected succulents with 70 percent isopropyl alcohol and remove them from other succulents.

Fertilize Succulents in the Summer
During the spring and summer, you can give succulents light fertilizer feedings. You should be careful not to overfertilize your succulent. Overfertilizing can cause it to grow too quickly and weaken.
